There are 2.750 children in the primary schools and nursery schools equipped with the ‘lave mains”. All children use the system to wash their hands and the teachers are very pleased with the simple use of it (after some training to the teachers).
It is too early to be able to measure the real impact of those installations on the health of the children. In the nursery schools were we have more control on the situation, we have seen a huge impact on the health of the children and also a change of behavior at the level of the families, influenced by the small children asking to have soap and water to wash their hands before meals or after having been to the latrines.
The major challenge is to make sure that besides water there is also soap available for the washing. It is now included in the budget of the schools.
