Soroptimist International Addis Ababa Club (SIAAC), together with Hope for Rural Children Organization (HORCO) have finalised the potable Water Supply and Women Empowerment project in Ethiopia.
Despite some delays and set-backs caused by climate conditions and price fluctuations in Ethiopia, the project supplied clean water 4.800 people and in addition has built some other water facilities.
The construction of the two spring eyes was finalized. Also the construction of three water distributions points was realised. As the community indicated it to be a pressing need two extra activities were carried out by construction of one cattle trough and one wash stand since these are also needed if the water supply is to be protected and the health and sanitation of the people to be improved.
Awareness raising and training activities on how to care for the installed water distribution points and how to open and close the taps of the water were carried out to secure sustainability and maintenance and improve the health status of the people and their cattle. The horticultural Activities and awareness raising on sanitation primary health care, Gender, Education and harmful traditional practices are scheduled later this year as a follow-up of the project. Currently further funding is secured to carry out all these activities as well.
This project has been funded by Aqua for All in cooperation and implemented in cooperation with Women for Water Partnership. WfWP and S/IE Addis Ababa would like to thank all other parties (Earth Water, Le Connaisseur, Twestifal Karlshamn and Warhammer for Water) for their generous contributions making this project possible.
